Decade-old tram remains discovered beneath road in Mumbai

Remains of decade-old tram tracks have been discovered underneath the road near South Mumbai's Flora Fountain area.

The tram service in Mumbai, which was introduced on 9th May 1874, was stopped on 31st March 1964.

The first tram began between Parel and Colaba was drawn by six to eight horses. Electrified tram service began on 7th May 1907.

The Colaba junction corner was the main junction of the city's tram network that would run from Colaba to Pydhonie via Crawford Market. The service was later extended to other parts of central Mumbai.
