Siachen is ultimately about valour, and going beyond the call of duty.

And the inhospitable terrain has engendered many, many tales of surviving the odds, none as glorious, and incredible, as Lance Naik Hanamanthappa's.

But there have been a few such remarkable tales to emerge from the icy heights.

Rediff contributor, and one of the foremost experts on internal security in the country, Nitin Gokhale, who has also authored Beyond NJ9842, The Siachen Saga, highlights one such story.

Of Indian Army porter Nima Norboo who lost three limbs in Siachen after a 25-hour ordeal stuck in a crevasse in 2010.

'This Indian Army porter Nima Norboo lost three limbs in Siachen after a 25-hour ordeal stuck in a crevasse in 2010,' tweets Nitin.

Truly a tale of grit and determination!
