Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi and Election Commissioners A K Joti and O P Rawat will visit Puducherry and Tamil Nadu from today to take stock of poll preparations in the two states where assembly elections are due in the next couple of months.

The EC has already been to Kerala, West Bengal and Assam where assembly elections are due in the coming months.

On Wednesday, they will hold consultations with political parties and review poll preparedness with top civil and police officials.

On Thursday, the EC top-brass will hold a similar exercise in Chennai.

While the term of assemblies in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal is coming to an end in May, the tenure of those in Kerala, Puducherry and Assam is coming to an end in June.

The Commission is likely to announce the poll schedule for the five states in March.

Since the elections in five states are being held almost at the same time, the EC will take into consideration the availability of central forces while deciding the schedule.
