Just in: Teri chief RK Pachari is finally out. Ajay Mathur, head of Bureau of Energy Efficiency, will finally take over as the new Director of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). Mathur, who was appointed as the new Director of government's think tank after the Governing Council of TERI in July decided to replace RK Pachauri, will join as TERI chief from Monday.

Pachauri was reluctant to let go of his powers and was asked to be made the chairman of TERI with executive powers. Mathur was then asked by the government to continue in his position till the climate change conference in Paris, which ended in December 11.

Pachauri, who has served two terms as chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, was accused of sexual harassment by a junior colleague in 2015, following which he went on leave from TERI, an organisation he built and nurtured for almost three-and-a-half decades. In July last year, he returned after a court allowed him to do so on the condition that he would not visit the TERI headquarters, where he used to sit earlier.
