Sonia calls meeting to decide alliance with Left in Bengal

The Congress party on Monday will sit for a crucial meeting chaired by the party President Sonia Gandhi to explore the possibility of a strategic alliance with the Left ahead of the West Bengal assembly elections.

Sources said, the meeting was called after the state party unit requested Sonia to go ahead with the Left to contest the state poll.

However, party insider said that Congress party is divided over the issue and may avoid an open alliance with the Left considering the bitter experience in Kerala. In Kerala both the parties are fighting against each other over a series of Scams faced by the UDF government.
