Banks refuse to accept deposits above Rs 5,000

The public, already reeling from the pain of demonetisation, was put to further hardship on Tuesday by the previous day's RBI circular that deposits above Rs 5,000 in old 500 and 1,000 notes would be credited to bank accounts "only after questioning the tenderer, on record, in the presence of at least two officials of the bank as to why this could not be deposited earlier and receiving a satisfactory explanation".  Read more
