Cyclone Vardah is expected to hit the Andhra coast near Machilipatnam by December 12 noon. Fishermen have been advised not to go to sea from December 10.

The clonic storm is expected to further intensify into a severe cyclone and will continue to move towards the north and then recurve in the northwest direction towards Andhra Pradesh Coast.

According to private weather forecaster Skymet, Warm sea surface temperatures of the Bay of Bengal and longer sea travel will help in the further intensification of the storm. The system will continue to pour heavy to very heavy rains over Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the next 24-48 hours, which will further affect rescue operations.

We can expect light to moderate rains to commence over Andhra Pradesh Coast around December 10 onward. By December 11 and 12, the region will witness moderate to heavy rains, with isolated places recording extremely heavy spells, it added.
