Family of Mahesh Shah, the Gujarat businessman who had gone missing after he disclosed Rs 13,860 crore under Centre's Income Disclosure Scheme, has been given police protection.

Shah had appeared before the media on Saturday and claimed that he had made the disclosure at behest of some people in the greed for commission.

"It is not my money. The money belongs various people including politicians, babus and builders,'' he told ETV Gujarati channel.

Later police and I-T officials arrived at the channel's office and detained him.

Though much is not known about Shah's income, sources in the Income Tax department claim he may have had real estate investments in Gujarat, Maharashtra and South India.
