Omita Paul, secretary to President Pranab Mukherjee, has shot off a letter to Cabinet Secretary P K Sinha seeking cabinet approval for a bungalow for Pranab Mukherjee after his retirement in July 25, 2017.

We can tell you that a few locations and bungalows have been shortlisted.
Keeping in mind the security necessary and also other logistics, it generally takes six to eight months to find a suitable house.

Since it's not yet clear whether Pranab Mukherjee will run for a second term, the internal preparations have begun, including sorting out of personal belonings.

Many of his belongings will go to the new bungalow, while some will go to Kolkata. But the President himself does not want to go back to his 13 Talkatora Road house where he spent 20 years as a Union Minister. In any case, from a security point of view, it's way too cramped.

The president also has a home in Sonatikuri in Jangipur, the constituency which was once represented by him in the Lok Sabha in between 2004 and 2012.
