US Congressman Ami Bera's father sentenced for campaign finance violations

Babulal Bera, the father of United States Republican Ami Bera (D-Elk Grove), was sentenced to federal prison on Thursday for illegally funneling about $260,000 (Rs 1.73 crore) to his sons congressional campaigns, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Prosecutors said the elder Bera created an elaborate scheme and repaid friends and family for the donations they made to his sons campaign.

Ami Bera, a two-term congressman from Sacramento County, faces a tough reelection fight this November.
