M I Khan reports: Bihar police has suspended 25 police personnel, including a station house officer, after 16 people lost their lives to spurious liquor in Bihars Gopalganj district, officials on Friday said.

The punished police officials were charged with dereliction of duty.

"It was found during preliminary investigation by three-member teams constituted by the District Magistrate Rahul Kumar that police personnel of the town police station had failed to enforce liquor ban and that is why all of them were suspended, a district official told rediff.com.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed grave concern over the Gopalganj tragedy, the first major incident after Bihar was declared a complete dry state on 5 April. He told reporters that the incident was serious and expressed confidence that truth would come out in the forensic test of viscera and blood samples of deceased.
