Two day after Amnesty International India was booked on the charge of sedition, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court against the 'misuse and misapplication' of sedition laws.

According to ANI, a petition has been moved by the NGO Common Cause, seeking urgent intervention of the apex court.

"The Petition filed through Advocate Prashant Bhushan alleges that the Sedition charges are framed against Citizens with a view to instil fear and to scuttle dissent and are in complete violation of the scope of sedition as laid down by a constitution bench of Supreme Court in Kedar nath v State of Bihar [1962 Supp. (2) S.C.R. 769], which is the locus classicus on the interpretation of sedition," reported LiveLaw.com.

Local police in Bengaluru had slapped sedition charges against Amnesty International India on Monday following allegations that anti-India slogans were raised at the event, organised by it, during a discussion on Kashmir issue.
