Britain may remain a member of the European Union until 2019, a year longer than previously estimated, a media report today said. Britain Prime Minister Theresa May has been expected to enact Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty in January 2017, setting in motion the formal two years of negotiations before Brexit.

However, she may be forced to delay it because her new Brexit and international trade departments will not be ready, the Sunday Times quoted sources as saying. French and German elections are also being cited as a cause for delay. Britain might not invoke Article 50 until France has voted next May or until after the German poll in September.
