Disqualification looms large over Indian boxers at Rio Olympics

The International Boxing Association (AIBA) pulls up Indian boxers for not having 'India' written on their jerseys.

Indian boxers Vikas Krishan , Manoj Kumar and Shiva Thapa now face a risk of being disqualified at the Rio Olympics, reports ABP News.

It is a statutory requirement in Olympics to have the name of the country the sportsperson is representing to be emblazoned on the blazer. Indian boxer Shiva Thapa has a bout at 11am Brazilian time and he will not be allowed to fight without the name of country at the back of his jersey.

This was informed to him after Manoj Kumar turned up for his bout, that "no Indian boxer will be allowed after this'.

This means Thapa has just 10 hours to get a new jersey made in order to avoid getting disqualified. The Indian contingent is now scurrying around to get the jersey inked.

When Thapa team should have been focussing on his upcoming match, this is a needless worry he has to contend with.
