A Bridge collapsed on Mumbai-Goa highway at around 2 am on Wednesday due to heavy rains, causing the traffic to halt. Rescue operations are underway.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that there were two parallel bridges, one was newly constructed while the older one was there since the British era. The older one collapsed.

He also said that Raigad collector had confirmed that one-way traffic has now resumed on the new bridge.

There are no reports about any casualties yet but according to CNN News 18, two buses have gone missing.

Fadnavis said that primary reason for the collapse seems to be high pressure caused by flooding of river Savitri due to heavy rains in catchment of Mahabaleshwar.

The National Disaster Response Force has sent a team comprising 50 men for relief operations, the NDRF said.
