The Bharatiya Janata Party has accepted Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patels resignation, Union minister Venkaiah Naidu said after partys Parliamentary Board meeting at Prime Minister Narendra Modis residence.

Anandiben will go to Raj Bhavan today and submit her resignation to the Governor, Naidu said.

He said the new CM will be from among the sitting MLAs of the Gujarat assembly.

"Nitin Gadkari and Saroj Pandey have been appointed observers, they will go to Gujarat and hold meetings, and after that a decision on next CM will be taken," Naidu said.

He, however, did not say anything about who will succeed Anandiben, but it is most likely that Gujarat BJP president Vijay Rupani will be the new CM.

Naidu ruled out BJP president Amit Shah be made the new CM, saying that the party wants him to continue as the party president as we need his leadership.
