'Saddened that due to my ill health, I had to cut my visit to Varanasi short. Couldn't visit Kashi Vishwanath Temple either,' a statement released by Sonia Gandhi's office stated.

'I will come back very soon, and then visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple,' Gandhi added.

Sonia Gandhi's roadshow in Varanasi came to a screeching halt after the Congress president was diagnosed with a high fever. Reports indicate that the Congress president has been put on drip at Varanasi airport.

'Heard about Sonia jis ill health during her Varanasi visit today. I pray for her quick recovery and good health,' Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.
