With the killing of three Taliban fighters, the attack at the Northgate hotel in Kabul, close to Bagram US airbase, has come to an end. Earlier, the Taliban claimed responsibility when gunmen attacked the compound following a powerful explosion and engaged in a shootout with security forces.

BBC reported that at least one Afghan officer had been killed and another injured in a gunfight inside the hotel. Meanwhile, a hotel source said that there was no casualties. Eleven foreigners, nine members of the hotel staff, and 26 security guards were in the hotel at the moment of the attack.
