Pune college groups clash over WhatsApp group subject line

One youth sustained injuries when two groups of students clashed at a college in Pune following a dispute over changing the subject line on a WhatsApp group, the police said.

The incident happened on the premise of Garware College on Friday, and the injured was identified as Akshay Dinkar. Four others sustained minor injuries in the incident.

A complaint in this regard was registered by a BBA student, Sanket Salunke (22), yesterday.

According to the police, on Thursday, some group members were offering birthday wishes to the complainant on WhatsApp and had changed the subject line to his name.

"One of the accused students, however, changed the subject line, which irked the complainant's friend Dinkar and he objected to it, which led to a dispute between them," a police inspector attached to the Deccan Gymkhana police station said.
