Days after he gets prosthetic leg, police horse Shaktiman dies

Just in: Shaktiman, the police horse injured during a BJP protest in Uttarakhand on March 14, has died. The horse's leg had to be amputated after it was badly broken during clashes between BJP protesters and the police. Shaktiman was part of the Uttarakhand Mounted Police.

The 13-year-old animal was then fitted with a prosthetic leg, but was confined to the police lines in Dehradun. Doctors treating him say he may have died of the shock of his new prosthetic leg.

Animal lovers had said that Shaktiman should have been euthanised because of the pain and discomfort he had to endure every time he stood up.
