A 50-year-old man beaten up by a mob for allegedly stealing a pair of sandals later died in police custody in upper Assam's Lakhimpur district. Juga Baruah was yesterday assaulted by a mob for allegedly stealing the sandals from a house in Simaloguri village, Deputy Commissioner in-charge Dibakar Doley said.
The police later took him away. Juga was found unconscious this morning in police custody and he was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, Doley said.
