Several outstation students of the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar, met Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani on Wednesday and requested for shifting the campus outside Srinagar.

"We placed our demands before them. We were given assurance that some of them will be fulfilled. We demanded that the NIT be shifted out of Srinagar, and also suggested alternatives," said the students after meeting the HRD minister in New Delhi.

"Discussions with the HRD minister revolved around valid reasons for shifting the NIT. They put forth their suggestions/constraints. Suggestions were given by us as well," they said.
