Delhi's babus go the smart card way

Digitisation is on in full swing in the Union government, especially for officials in Rashtrapati Bhavan and the Prime Minister's Office.

Officials above the rank of joint secretaries in the President's mansion and a few blocks and bhavans that house many Union ministries have been given a smart card for entry purposes.

The age old 'taala-chaavi' system has thus been given the go-by in many government departments in Delhi, with smart cards being used to open the official chambers of secretaries, additional secretaries and joint secretaries.

So zealous is this drive that officials often carry two smart cards, one for their official chambers and the other for the 'corner room' toilets.
