Mizo NGOs plan drive against homosexuals

Here's some troubling news from the north-east.

'Non-governmental organisations in Mizoram have decided to launch a drive against same-sex couples living in Aizawl and its adjoining areas,' reports Nilotpal Bhattacharya in the Telegraph, Kolkata.

Homosexuals living in Mizoram will be identified by organisations like the Mizo Zirlai Pawl, Young Mizo Association, Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl and Mizoram Upa Pawl which intend to "take action" against them, the report says.

'Homosexuality is against the teachings of Christianity. It's a sin. God has created men and women and they should follow the natural path. Marriage is a union of a man and a woman and legalisation of same-sex marriage will certainly destabilise the family system and result in harmful consequences for society at large,' Lalhmachhuana, president of the MZP, tells Nilotpal.

'The younger generation might get motivated by seeing them (homosexuals) and so we have decided to launch the drive,' he adds.

The date of launching the drive will be finalised in the MZP's next meeting that is expected to be held soon.
