Woman injured in militant firing in South Kashmir

Mukhtar Ahmad reports from Srinagar: Militants on late Monday evening shot at and injured a woman in south Kashmir Tral town.

A senior police officer said militants fired at Shakeela, 42 near her house at Ganeshpora in Tral town of Pulwama district.

She was immediately evacuated to hospital for treatment at Tral. Attending doctors have referred her to capital Srinagar for specialized treatment, "the officer said.

He said Shakeela received a bullet injury in her thigh. Security forces rushed to the area. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
