President Pranab Mukherjee is unlikely to give his assent to the Gujarat anti-terror bill.

The bill, which was passed by the Gujarat assembly but rejected by the UPA government twice, was recently approved by the Narendra Modi government and sent to the President for his approval.

President Mukherjee, it is learnt, might seek more clarifications on the legislation and is consulting legal experts.

The Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organised Crime (GCTOC) Bill, 2015, as it is called, was first introduced by Narendra Modi as Gujarat chief minister in 2003.

According to a highly placed source, in all probability the bill is likely to be sent back to the Union Cabinet.
