Insiders believe that his grandmother, party chief Sonias Gandhi's mother, is serious and that is why he is in the US. Next week, Sonia too has plans to spend a week with her mother in US and Rahul is expected to be back in Delhi by then, reports a Delhi correspondent. However, there has been no confirmation from the party on the same.

The controversy around Rahul's latest visit to the US continued to simmer with BJP disputing the veracity of Congress' version that the party vice president had gone to attend a prestigious 'Weekend With Charlie Rose' conference.

Expressing doubts, BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao said 'Weekend with Charlie Rose' was held between June 25 and July 4. "Is Rahul Gandhi traveling back in time?" he asked. He cited the schedule of the Aspen Institute to claim that its annual event 'Weekend with Charlie Rose' has always been held every year between June 25 and July 4.

But Congress insisted that Rahul had gone for the event.
