At least 31 militants were killed today when Pakistani fighter jets targeted their hideouts in the restive northwestern tribal region, the military said. The air strikes were launched in Tirah valley of Khyber Agency which is one of seven semi-autonomous tribal regions.

A military official said that two hideouts were destroyed in the precision attacks. "The attack also killed 31 militants while eight more were injured," he said.

The attack coincided with militants killing three policemen in suburbs of provincial capital Peshawar which borders Khyber Agency.
