Baramulla encounter ends, 1 armyman, 1 Hizbul militant killed

Mukhtar Ahmad/Rediff.com reports: One army trooper and a militant were killed in a fierce gunfight in Ladoora Rafiabad village in north Kashmir's Baramulla district today.

The army and police had surrounded the village early this morning on specific information about the presence of militants there. "As the security forces were busy in carrying out a search, militants holed up in the house opened fire at the surrounding troops. One army trooper was crtically wounded and succumbed to his injuries," said the officer.

"In the subsequent encounter, a top Hizbul Mujahideen militant identified as Riyaz Ahmed, was killed. The encounter is over, but sanitation operations are still on," the officer said.
