Three Pakistani Taliban militants suspected to be involved in a suicide attack on twin churches here in March were killed in a shootout today after a botched attempt to break them out of police custody.

Lahore police chief Amin Wains said that the three main suspects involved in the suicide attack on the churches were killed in the shootout with the police's Crime Investigation Agency after they tried to "escape" with the help of their accomplices.

Last month, police in collaboration with the ISI had arrested the suspects who belonged to the TTP.

On March 15, two suicide bombers blew themselves up killing 17 people at the gates of Lahore's Christ Church and Catholic Church in the country's largest Christian colony --  Youhanabad -- that houses over 100,000 Christians.
