Scholarship sheds Nehru's name

India and the US have quietly decided to sever Jawaharlal Nehru's name from new initiatives under one of the world's best-known public diplomacy projects, pressed by the Narendra Modi government just before the PMtravelled to New York in September. Scholarships for India under Washington's Fulbright programme were named the "Fulbright-Nehru" fellowships under a 2008 agreement after the then Manmohan Singh government decided to match America's bilateral contribution. 

But new scholarships initiated under the same 2008 financial-sharing agreement will now be called "Fulbright-India" fellowships instead -- all other aspects of that agreement will continue -- senior Indian and American officials said.
