Ahead of the crucial meeting of the board of members of the Sahitya Akademi, writers, novelists and eminent litterateurs  have come together and have begun a silent march to protest the growing intolerance in the country and the murder of MM Kalburgi.

In the recent times, at least 35 writers have given up their awards to protest the current wave of intolerance -- starting with the beef ban to to the Dadri lynching. Writers say that their return of awards and this march is their way of protesting against the government, who in their opinion, has done little to curb the crimes and the intolerance in the country.

Today, the executive board of the Sahitya Akademi will hold an emergency meeting to discuss the crisis.
