Jaitley, Gowda meet Pranab over NJAC

Finance minister Arun Jaitley and law minister Sadananda Gowda met President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday on the issue of the Supreme Court ruling on the NJAC Act.


Speculation is ripe about a possible ordinance to bring a new legislation in the winter session of Parliament. Jaitley, on the direction of the prime minister has held two rounds of meetings with law officers on Sunday at his house before the meeting with President Pranab Mukherjee.


Supreme Court on Friday rejected the National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC) Act and the 99th Constitutional Amendment which sought to give politicians and civil society a final say in the appointment of judges to the highest courts.
