Former environment minister and senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has been receiving a lot of mail over the last two days.

Hate mail.

On October 18, Ramesh told PTI in an interview that Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi would bring with him a new team for the Congress when he takes over as its president by March next year or even earlier. Ramesh indicated that leaders above the age of 60 may only play an advisory role under the new dispensation.

While suggesting a graceful exit for leaders in the 70-plus category, the senior Congress leader emphasised that the transition process would be smooth and that Rahul will not treat seniors the way PM Modi treated his seniors in the party.

Jairam explained that young voters were attracted to the BJP and it was time the Congress attempted to attract youngsters and went to suggest that Rahul Gandhi should focus on this. He added that Canada was a case in point which had just elected a young prime minister Justin Trudeau, who was just 43.

On the hit list are leaders like AK Antony, Motilal Vohra and MLFotedar among others.
