October 19, 2015  14:30
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will skip the grand lunch to be hosted by the Andhra Pradesh government after the foundation stone ceremony of the new state capital, Amaravati, on October 22.

Modi is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for Amaravati, which will come up on the right bank of the river Krishna in Vijayawada-Guntur region. Sources said Modi is on Navaratri fast and thus he will not have lunch in Amaravati.

Accordingly, the prime minister's tour schedule has been trimmed by an hour. Sources said Modi's visit has been cut short following an advisory from the Prime Minister's Office.

As per the latest schedule, Modi will arrive at Uddandarayunipalem at 12.30 pm and leave the place at 1.45pm. He will spend nearly 75 minutes at the venue.

According to the earlier itinerary, Modi was scheduled to spend about three hours in the state capital region. It is however not clear whether Modi's trip to Tirupati later in the day will be advanced.

Modi has been observing fast during Navaratri for the last several years.
