Independent MLA Engineer Rashid, who a hosted beef party at MLA hostel on Wednesday, was beaten up by BJP MLA Ravinder Raina in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly on Thursday.

At the party, Rashid served kebabs, rista (minced meat balls) and patties -- all made from beef -- to the guests.

The J&K assembly is scheduled to take up a Bill on beef ban, which seeks to repeal the law that prohibits slaughter of bovines and the sale of beef in the state.

"My aim is to send a message to the governmentI wanted to tell the government that whether you pass the Bill or not, discuss it or not, we don't care about this ban. It doesn't make any difference to us," Rashid had told media persons.

Insisting that the ban on beef was "interference in religious" affairs, he added: "By this party, I want to tell them that religious affairs can not be kept subservient to judiciary or legislature."
