When coalitions of political parties lose their gravitas, especially when they are in power, and when the parting of ways between constituent elements surges into view, it presents a painful sight.


The unraveling of the ruling alliance in Kerala has begun and the only comforting point is that attrition is taking its toll, finally, after over decades of co-habitation by the coalition partners.


The alliance in Maharashtra, on the contrary, is only holding together due to the lure of big money and loot and patronage, whereas it has been an improbable alliance of opportunists right from its inception last year.
