The BBC reports that there was a "high degree of certainty" that 'Jihadi John', the Islamic State militant who carried out a number of beheadings,  was hit in the attack near Raqqa, in Syria.

Quoting a senior military, the BBC said Mohammed Emwazi, the Kuwaiti-born British militant, who appeared in videos of the beheadings of Western hostages, said there was at least one other person in the vehicle targeted. A US official told the BBC Emwazi had been "tracked carefully over a period of time".
