Fresh protests outside IIT-Madras against ban of student group that slammed PM

Fresh protests were held outside IIT-Madras this morning over the de-recognising a students' body for reportedly criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The protests were led by the Democratic Youth Federation of India and also saw the participation from other youth organisations, who condemned the HRD ministry. Several protesters were detained as the clashed with policemen outside the institute.

Anticipating strong protests security was tightened outside IIT.

On Friday, scores of Congress party-affiliated National Students Union of India workers on Friday held a protest outside Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani's official residence. They raised anti-government slogans and accused the HRD ministry of being behind the action against the body.
