Power secretary PK Sinha appointed Cabinet Secretary

Power secretary Pradeep Kumar Sinha wins the race and has been appointed Cabinet Secretary.

Sinha was believed to be ahead in the race for the much-coveted cabinet secretary's job, even as finance secretary Rajiv Mehrishi was the other top contender to take over from Ajit Seth. Seth's extended term is due to end on June 13.

Typically, the government appoints the cabinet secretary 15 days before he formally takes over and the bureaucrat works as an officer on special duty in the cabinet secretariat.

Sinha, a 1977 batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, is among the senior-most IAS officers in the country and is seen as an upright officer.
