Mumbai: 11 killed in bus accident after driver falls asleep on wheel

Eleven persons, including a five-year-old, died and 15 others were injured after a minibus, on its way to Surat, crashed into a luxury bus on NH 8 in Thane Rural at around 3.30 am on today.

According to state highway patrol security officials, the driver of the minibus fell asleep at the wheel and caused the crash. "We have made inquires with eye-witnesses, mainly nearby truck drivers, and also the tyre prints of the minibus left on the road indicates a sudden change in course of the vehicle," Gaurav Shinde, a police official with the state highway patrol told The Indian Express.

Police said that the incident took place on National Highway 8 that connects Mumbai to Gujarat in front of Sahayadri Hotel in Talasari area. The luxury bus was on its way to Mumbai from Surat, Gujarat.
