A man was detained by the US Secret Service Thursday for attempting to fly a drone near White House grounds, a federal law enforcement source told Fox News.

The source also said the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force was responding, per protocol, and an investigation was underway.

The man's motive was not immediately clear.

The White House was briefly placed on lockdown, which was lifted Thursday afternoon.

This latest incident comes less than a month after a Florida mailman protesting campaign finance laws flew a gyrocopter onto the grounds of the US Capitol. He was arrested and charged with flying an unregistered aircraft into protected national security airspace.
