The Kerala HC division bench upholds prohibition. As per the state's liquor
policy, only 5-star and above category of hotels are eligible to apply
for liquor license from the next financial year, beginning tomorrow.
Hearing the case, a Single Bench of the Kerala High Court last year had ruled that 4-star hotels also be allowed to serve liquor. Later, a Division Bench ordered status quo in the governments new liquor policy, allowing all the bars to remain open. But, that order is valid till only March 31 as the liquor licenses are issued for a 12-month period from April to March.
