Parliament building may not be able to withstand earthquake

The Roorkee IIT structural report on the foundation of the Parliament House complex has revealed shocking details. The report is marked 'Secret' and Parliament officials are afraid of sharing it under the RTI.

With reason.

The indepth study reveals that the foundation is weak and a 5.2 magntude earthquake and reduce the building to rubble.

TK Viswanathan who was the Secretary General of the 15th Lok Sabha initiated the study. At least 20 engineers spent a fortnight getting their hands dirty (literally) at the Parliament House complext to study how vulnerable the building was to an earthquake.
