"We were disappointed, for example, by India's support this week for the attempt to strip benefits from UN staff in same-sex relationships. We will continue to support the rights of LGBT individuals in India, in international institutions, and around the world," he said.

India was among the 43 countries along with China, Egypt,Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar and Saudi Arabia that voted in support of a Russia-drafted resolution that proposed removing benefits for same-sex partners of UN staff. But the resolution failed to pass in the General Assembly committee after 80 nations opposed it.

Ahead of today's meet Yadav said, "It is an important day for AAP today. The future of the party will be decided. In a battle with power, passion always wins."

The situation worsened when another sting op last night showed Kejriwal using expletives against Yadav and Bhushan and even threatening to form a new party.

TV channels aired the conversation purportedly between Kejriwal and one Umesh Singh, a party worker, in which the AAP chief loses his cool and tells the worker to better go and work with Yadav and Bhushan.

Last afternoon, Yadav and Bhushan held an explosive presser in which they called the AAP chief a dictator.

03:01   US charges ex-cop in confrontation with Indian man
A former police officer in Alabama has been charged with violating the civil rights of an Indian man who was injured during a violent confrontation, authorities said today.

Former police officer Eric Sloan Parker is charged with using unreasonable force that left Sureshbhai Patel partially paralyzed. The 57-year-old from Gujarat doesn't speak English. He was slammed face-first to the ground in the Feb 6 confrontation, which was captured on video.

Alabama Gov Robert Bentley previously apologised to the Indian government for the treatment of Patel, calling it a case of "excessive force."

Parker will plead not guilty, defence attorney Robert Tuten said.

"We are shocked, disappointed and overwhelmed by all the ways Eric Parker is coming under attack," Tuten said in an email. "However, we are looking forward to seeing the indictment and having our day in court."

Police treatment of minorities has become a big issue in the United States over the past year, and US Attorney Joyce Vance said people "must be able to trust the police."

02:58   Katrina Kaif's wax statue unveiled in London
Katrina Kaif today became the latest Indian star to join the Bollywood line-up at Madame Tussauds in London.

Kaif unveiled the wax statue and joined the new Bollywood setting as part of the popular wax-work museum's "15 years of Bollywood" celebration.

After coming face-to-face with her wax model, Kaif said, "This is amazing it does look really like me."

"Our world famous sculptors have worked closely with the Indian film industry over the last decade, and we now have a stellar line-up in a specially created Bollywood area -- one of the most popular in the attraction," Madame Tussauds said in a statement.

Katrina, born to a British mother and Kashmiri father, was picked after she went head to head with competitors Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone to win a hotly contested poll last year via Madame Tussauds website and in collaboration with Panjab Radio, with more than 225,000 votes were cast.

The 31-year-old British-Indian actress has become the seventh Bollywood actor to be honoured with a figure at Madame Tussauds London and joins Amitabh Bachchan (2000), Aishwarya Rai (2004), Shah Rukh Khan (2007), Salman Khan (2008), Hrithik Roshan (2011) and Madhuri Dixit-Nene (2012).

01:44   AAP set for a stormy national executive meeting today
The Aam Aadmi Party is set for a stormy meeting of its national executive on Saturday where rival factions will square off in the next chapter of a bitter internal power struggle.

On the eve of the meeting, an audio tape emerged of a purported conversation between AAP leader and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and party colleague Umesh Singh.

In the tape played by television channels, a voice purported to be that of Kejriwal abuses his colleagues, including Yogendra Yadav, Prashant Bhushan, Anand Kumar and Ajit Jha.

He adds he has no interest in getting into the internal fight and may form a new party along with the 67 members of the legislative assembly who won election in the Delhi state polls in January that brought the AAP to power.

At a press conference on Friday, Yadav and Bhushan accused Kejriwal of abusing his position as AAP convenor and seeking to undermine internal democracy.

01:28   Andhra Pradesh MLAs get iPhones
The MLAs in Andhra Pradesh were given iPhones on the last day of Budget session of the Assembly today.

This comes a day after Speaker K Sivaprasad Rao informed the members to collect the high-end smartphones designed and marketed by US giant Apple Inc.

The distribution of iPhones has not come as a surprise as it has been a general practice to give electronic items like laptops to legislators during the Budget sessions.

The move comes at a time when the state is facing a revenue deficit following bifurcation.

Finance Minister Y Ramakrishnudu, however, maintained that the Government has neither given phones to the members nor organised cultural programmes (also an old practice at the end of session) in view of the financial difficulties being faced by the state.

In the Budget for 2015-16, the state finance minister had put the estimated revenue deficit at Rs 7,300 crore and fiscal deficit at Rs 17,584 crore.

01:25   Lufthansa may face 'unlimited' damages for Alps crash
Lufthansa could face "unlimited" compensation claims for the crash that killed 150 people in the French alps and it would be difficult, even counterproductive, for the German carrier to try to avoid liability, experts said today.

Under a treaty governing deaths and injuries aboard international flights, airlines are required to compensate relatives of victims for proven damages of up to a limit currently set at about $157,000 regardless of what caused the crash.

But higher compensation is possible if a carrier is held liable.

"So more or less you will have unlimited financial damage," said Marco Abate, a German aviation lawyer.

To avoid liability, a carrier has to prove that the crash wasn't due to "negligence or other wrongful act" by its employees, according to Article 21 of the 1999 Montreal Convention.

That would be a difficult argument to make when a pilot intentionally crashes a plane into a mountain, and one that Lufthansa would likely avoid as it could further damage the brand, Abate said.

Investigators say the co-pilot of Germanwings Flight 9525 locked himself into the cockpit and slammed the Airbus A320 into the Alps. Germanwings is a subsidiary of Lufthansa.

01:23   Apple chief Cook to give his wealth away: Fortune
Apple chief Tim Cook is joining Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates and other technology titans who have vowed to donate their wealth to charities, according to a report in Fortune magazine.

"You want to be the pebble in the pond that creates the ripple for change," Cook was quoted as saying in a Fortune story focused on how he has brought his own winning style of leadership to the iconic California company more than three years ago.

Cook plans to give away his entire fortune, after setting money aside to pay for a 10-year-old nephew's college education, according to the Fortune article available online Friday and to appear in a printed version of the magazine due out at the start of April.

His net worth was estimated at about $120 million, based on the amount of Apple stock he owns. Cook also owns restricted shares that could be worth $665 million if they become fully vested.

Cook told Fortune that he has been donating money discreetly, but intends to adopt a more systematic approach.

He did not specify causes he might target.
