Actor Salman Khan has recorded his statement in a court in Mumbai today in a 13-year-old hit-and-run case. Khan says a false case has been registered against him.

This is a gist of what he said at the police station today. "I was not driving," Salman tells the court. He said his driver Ashok was driving. He also said chemical analyser Bala Shankar was not an expert.

The actor also said he did not run away after the accident.

Details awaited.

Khan, 49, is accused of running over pavement dwellers with his SUV in the early hours of September 28, 2002. One person was killed and four were injured. The actor faces charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison

The prosecution has alleged that the actor was under the influence of liquor and examined witnesses to prove that before the mishap he had gone along with his friends to a bar in a seven star hotel in the late hours on the day.
