Nearly 48 hours after the Navy Dornier plane crashed into the sea off the Goa coast, the body of Lt Kiran Shekhawat, the observer officer on-board, was located by divers in the wreckage.

Her body was being taken to Goa, last night.

However, the second officer-sub-lieutenant Abhinav Nagori, is still missing.

Lt Kiran Shekhawat is married to Navy officer Vivek Chhoker and is the first woman officer of the Navy to have died in a service aircraft crash.

Shekhawat, an observer, had taken part in the first all-women marching contingent of the navy during the Republic Day parade.

INS Makar, a naval hydrographic vessel, had detected a large metallic object using its side-scan sonar at a depth of 50-60 metres. Later on inspection, it was confirmed that the object was the fuselage of the Dornier aircraft.
