Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Punjab today to pay homage to well known freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru on the occasion of their 84th martyrdom anniversary.

The PM will visit Hussainiwala, the place where all three were unceremoniously cremated after their hanging in Lahore by the British colonial administration on March 23, 1931 on grounds of treason. He will also visit the Golden Temple and the Jallianwala Baugh in Amritsar to pay homage to those who were martyred during India's freedom struggle in the early part of the 20th century.

The PM tweeted, "In Punjab today. Will pay homage to Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru at Hussainiwala and will go to Golden Temple and Jallianwala Baugh."

In another tweet written in Hindi, he said, "Tributes to these great patriots -- Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev -- on their martyrdom day, who sacrificed their lives for the nation. The National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala depicts an irrepressible revolutionary spirit of these three martyrs, who lit the eternal flame of liberty by smilingly embracing martyrdom for the motherland."
