To ensure public opinion for the government, the Delhi police also briefed editors of TV channels and print media that the Rahul controversy was not an instance of snooping, but necessary fact checks to ensure security for the Congress vice-president.

Congress leaders admit in private that this brouhaha was because of the unnecessary hype created by Abhishek Singhvi's comment alluding to Rahul's profiling as one based on the Amit-Shah Gujarat model. They agreed that in this case, the Congress was wrong.

13:24   Sharad Yadav unapologetic over 'saanvli' remark
Under attack for sexist remarks, JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav today remained unapologetic for his comments on women's complexion, as he raked it up again saying he was ready for a debate on the issue.

"What have I said ... 'saanvli' (dark complexioned) women are more in number in India, they are more in number the world over. I am ready to debate with anyone on the struggle of (Ram Manohar) Lohia and others for them," he said in Rajya Sabha.

As Yadav explained his position on the issue, he was interrupted by both treasury and opposition members including HRD Minister Smriti Irani.

Why did the Congress choose to stay put in the Lok Sabha after walking out from the Rajya Sabha over the alleged snooping on party vice-president Rahul Gandhi.

Congress MPs in the Central Hall openly accused friends of Rahul Gandhi for having misled the house on the issue and over-hyping it and they place the blame on the able shoulders of party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi who had stated that Rahul's profiling was on the Gujarat Model and likened it to "snoopgate"

"Suzette Katrina Jordan was my Mama's name. She had her own perspective, her own logic as to how life should be lived. She was incontestably stubborn and unbelievably broad-minded. She believed in being real, like the beauty of waking up at noon and looking ugly from the smeared makeup, she believed in the twinkle of someone's eyes and the glow on their faces, when they spoke of something they loved, the truth, like a visitor at our place and their reaction to an untidy house and an unmade bed, or a sudden skip of a heart beat when the favourite character in a movie died. My mama taught my sister and I to live for the small moments, moments like our first kiss, the adrenaline rush during a thrilling moment. She taught us to work hard just to be Able enough to fight this world. She taught us that no work makes you big or small, and no job defines you. Mama taught me to stay humble, "No matter how much money, pride or ego we have, all our coffins are made the same size."

11:01   India's gross national mood
The concept of Gross National Happiness or GNH, as expounded in Bhutan, is a novel and attractive measure, and that it has not been adapted more widely is surprising. In India, people grow up in the background of dharma and karma.

If one inherits wealth or becomes wealthy in one's lifetime, it is generally considered as being destined.

If, on the other hand, one is born in poverty and deprivation, such a person may live in the hope of better times, following death and rebirth. Without wishing to give the impression of being an expert, it would be fair to say that these beliefs are also prevalent in some neighbouring Asian nations as well.

08:56   Saddam's tomb suffers extensive damage in Iraq fighting
The tomb of Iraq's late dictator Saddam Hussein was virtually leveled in heavy clashes between militants from the Islamic State group and Iraqi security forces in a fight for control of the city of Tikrit.

Fighting intensified to the north and south of Saddam Hussein's hometown yesterday as Iraqi security forces vowed to reach the centre of Tikrit within 48 hours. Associated Press video from the village of Ouja, just south of Tikrit, shows all that remains of Hussein's once-lavish tomb are the support columns that held up the roof.

Poster-sized pictures of the late Sunni dictator, which once covered the mausoleum, are now nowhere to be seen amid the mountains of concrete rubble. Instead, Shiite militia flags and photos of militia leaders mark the predominantly Sunni village, including that of Major General Qassem Soleimani, the powerful Iranian general advising Iraqi Shiite militias on the battlefield.

"This is one of the areas where IS militants massed up the most because Saddam's grace is here," said Captain Yasser Nu'ma, an official with the Shiite militias, formerly known as the Popular Mobilization Forces. "The IS militants' set an ambush for us by planting bombs around the palace."

08:55   Facebook moves into e-commerce, acquires TheFind
Social networking giant Facebook has embraced e-commerce after it acquired shopping search engine 'TheFind', signalling its aspirations in two of the Internet's biggest money-makers: search and e-commerce.

Both Facebook and TheFind cast the acquisition as a way to lift the digital advertising business of Facebook, which with USD 12.6 billion in annual ad sales last year, is unquestionably a dominant player in the industry.

"Together, we believe we can make the Facebook ads experience even more relevant and better for consumers," Facebook said in a statement about the deal. TheFind echoed those comments, saying its technology would be integrated into Facebook "to make the ads you see on Facebook every day better and more relevant to you."

In its webpost, TheFind said many of its employees would be joining Facebook and work on improving the relevance of the social network's advertising. TheFind added that its search engine will go offline "in the next few weeks."

Facebook has been testing a "buy" button since July 2014 that lets users purchase goods directly. Now, with TheFind, it would be able to add additional shopping tools to its service.

Facebook did not reveal details of the acquisition, including how much it paid for the company. TheFind was co-founded in 2006 by CEO Siva Kumar and CTO Shashikant Khandelwal, both native Indians.
