India is deeply concerned about developments in Maldives: Govt

Reacting to reports of a 13-year jail term for ex Maldivian president 13-year jail term for ex-president Mohamed Nasheed, the Ministry of External Affairs said, "India is deeply concerned about the developments in Maldives. We monitoring the situation closely."

Nasheed was last night sentenced to 13-year imprisonment by a criminal court in Male under the anti-terrorism laws. In a court hearing, Nasheed, the country's first democratically elected leader who was arrested on February 22 over the detention of a judge in 2012, was charged under the Anti-Terrorism Act 1990, highly-placed sources told PTI.
